Check confirmation statements and ID status this week

A Companies House year-end target is not your deadline. Non-compliance rules already in force can still bite if you leave a gap.

A kitchen table at night with a laptop open on a Companies House company overview page, a calendar showing a circled filing date, and an unopened brown envelope beside a mug.

Companies House does not have to wait until 31 March 2027 to act against a company that has missed identity verification. Its public target, set by Small Business Minister Blair McDougall in the 2026 to 2027 business plan published on 19 May 2026, is that by the end of the financial year all companies will have met identity verification requirements linked to their confirmation statement, or be on an appropriate pathway to compliance or enforcement. That target measures the agency. It is not your filing date, and it does not pause duties already in force.

You are affected if you are a director, a person with significant control, or anyone else Companies House has told must verify, and your company is due a confirmation statement. Identity verification for new directors and people with significant control has been required since 18 November 2025. For existing directors and people with significant control, verification is tied to the confirmation statement. From 18 November 2025 you cannot file that statement unless the required people have verified, or an identity-verification exception applies. Scotland and Northern Ireland companies on the UK register follow the same Companies House rules.

This week, do not wait for a letter. Sign in to the Companies House WebFiling or online account for the company and open the confirmation statement page. Note the made-up date and the filing deadline, which is 14 days after the made-up date. Check each director and each person with significant control against the identity verification status shown on the company record. A personal code issued after verification must be linked to the role. If a code is missing, or a person shows as not verified, complete verification through GOV.UK One Login or an Authorised Corporate Service Provider before you try to file. If you have already filed late, or filed with the wrong code, correct it now. File the overdue confirmation statement as soon as the people are verified. A late confirmation statement is a criminal offence for the company and every officer in default. Companies House can also use registrar powers already in force under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, including requiring information, annotating or removing material, and moving towards strike-off if filings stay outstanding. Those powers do not depend on the 225,000-action target in the business plan. If you receive a warning or a default notice, reply within the date on the notice and keep a copy. Do not pay a third party who emails you offering to “clear” a Companies House fine or verification block. Use only gov.uk.
